Security academy in Transcarpathia: presentation of a collection to support the defenders of Ukraine and wounded soldiers

24/06/2024

Together with several participants of our educational projects aimed at students and parliamentary assistants, we travelled to Uzhhorod, Ukraine, at the beginning of April, where we handed over the proceeds of our fundraising campaign worth over CZK 60,000 and met with representatives of local NGOs as part of an intensive program.

At the turn of February and March this year, the participants of the current edition of the Security Academy project launched a collection to support the defenders of Ukraine. It culminated in a trip to Uzhhorod and the handover of technical equipment for the repair of 128th Independent Mountain Assault Brigade Transcarpathia, lighting equipment for 208th Cherson Air Defense Brigade, funding for the production of drones for Movement in Support of Transcarpathian Soldiers - Uzhhorod and clothing for wounded soldiers in Uzhhorod hospitals.

Thanks to a number of cordial meetings during the three-day program, we got to know more about the activities of Ukrainian civil society organizations during the war, the current social mood in Ukraine and the impact of the war on the population. In many spontaneous conversations with locals, in addition to strong personal stories, we often heard words of gratitude about the Czech Republic and its help since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

In addition to learning about the reality of life in Transcarpathia during the war, our goal was to tell our Ukrainian partners that we are not forgetting them and that we are not tired of war, both through the collection and the fact that we went to Ukraine in person.

We thank the donors of the collection for this contribution to Ukraine in its struggle for freedom at the cost of human lives, immeasurable effort, determination and enormous material resources. We will of course continue to support Ukraine and are already busily planning the next round of fundraising.

Thank you for meeting us: Jaroslav Syvochop and Oksana Ivats from Transcarpathian Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Dmytro Tuzanski from Institute for Central European Strategy, Olga Dzhuchan and Oksana Babunych (European Solidarity Transcarpathia), Hanna Melehanych (Megasocium), Olena Bilanina (Youth Council of Uzhhorod) and Volodymyr Suran (Movement in Support of Transcarpathian Soldiers - Uzhhorod).

On the Ukrainian side, they organized the collection: Movement in Support of Transcarpathian Soldiers - Uzhhorod; Oksana Ivats, Head of NGO "The world of social development" and Jaroslav Syvokhop director Transcarpathian Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education and non-profit organization Equal with equal.
