Academy for Assistants of Members of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

For three years, we have been strengthening the foreign and security policy of the Czech Republic.

The aim of the programme is to deepen the expertise and competence of assistants to Members of Parliament in the field of security and foreign policy through regularly organised meetings with leading experts from the Czech and foreign security community, networking with foreign counterparts and domestic and international study trips..

The Academy provides assistants with a unique opportunity to discuss their work and share experiences with assistants and experts from the German Bundestag, the National Council of the Slovak Republic, the Polish Sejm or the European Parliament.

As part of the Academy, we organise:

Workshops on current foreign and security policy topics: discussion meetings led by experienced practitioners are held approximately once or twice a month. They provide an opportunity to discuss with invited experts key and topical issues of global and national security, energy, bilateral relations, the Czech Republic's resilience to external influences, the future of the EU and NATO, or the attitudes of the Czech public on current international and domestic issues.

Study trips aimed at deepening knowledge and strengthening cooperation between Czech and foreign parliamentary assistants. These trips include:

  • Institutional visits: during the trips, participants visit parliaments, governmental, non-governmental and international organisations (e.g. EU and NATO).
  • Briefings and discussions: The programme includes moderated discussions and briefings with experts and representatives of relevant institutions and stakeholders.
  • Networking: During the trips, participants have the opportunity to share experiences and make contacts with their international counterparts, such as parliamentary assistants from Slovakia, Poland, Germany and other countries or the European Parliament.
  • Destinations: Study trips have already been made to Berlin, Brussels, Bratislava, Warsaw, Seoul and Busan, with further destinations planned according to current needs and themes.

The programme is flexible in time and participation in selected parts is voluntary.

Currently, a total of 45 participants across the Democratic political parties are involved in the program.
